Why refer to medical genetics?
Why refer to medical genetics?
Medical Genetics is the practice of understanding the effect of DNA differences on the body. Typically this happens in an office setting after getting a referral from a physician. Given the lack of medical genetics professionals in the U.S., wait times are significant and costs are high. Atwal Clinic is made up of the highest quality medical geneticists in the U.S. who specialize in many areas. Our mission is to bring transparency and access to the practice of genetics. We are owned and operated by doctors who are compassionate and understand the long diagnostic odyssey that many patients suffer through.
Consider referring to Atwal Clinic if your patient has one or more of the following:
A personal or family history of a genetic condition, birth defect, chromosomal disorder, or hereditary cancer.
Two or more pregnancy losses (miscarriages), a stillbirth, or an infant who passed away.
A child with a known inherited disorder, a birth defect, intellectual disability, or developmental delay.
Abnormal test results that suggest a genetic or chromosomal condition.
An increased risk of developing or passing on a particular genetic disorder on the basis of a person’s ethnic background.
People related by blood (for example, cousins) who plan to have children together. (A child whose parents are related may be at an increased risk of inheriting certain genetic disorders.)
A genetic consultation is also an important part of the decision-making process for genetic testing. A visit with a genetics professional may be helpful even if testing is not available for a specific condition, however.
How to refer to our clinic?
